Break up (to be inaudible over the mobile phone)
Sorry, could you repeat that, please? You’re breaking up.

Get through (to be contacted to a place by telephone)
I finally got through to Tom on his mobile.

10 April
Hold on/ hang on (wait for a short time)
Could you hold on a moment, please?

11 April
Put through (to connect by telephone with someone else)
Could you put me through to the manager, please?

12 April
Hang up (end a telephone call by putting the phone down)
I can’t believe he hung up on me!

16 April
Get back to (to return a phone call)
I’ll find out and get back to you soon.

Speak up (speak louder)
Can you speak up a bit? It’s very noisy here.
